Public speaking can sometimes feel like a nightmare, but if you don't like the way you currently come across, you don't have to put up with it. Identify the desired effect of your speech. Visualize it. Identify your preferred image in relation to your target audience. Confidence and appearances are vital in this area of activity. You can make studied changes to the way that you move and speak that will help project your desired image, and this is likely to have a marked influence upon how your public performance is received as a whole. You don't need to be burdened with too many things to concentrate upon all at once; your public speaking persona should be developed gradually over time, but with a clear ambition in mind. The target is to make actions and speech that suit your preferred image seem natural and confident. You are seeking a coherent integrity that is designed to impress.
This experimental course will take you through the four major phases of preparation for public speaking. In order to monitor and tweak your performance at key stages, you will need access to a digital camera that takes video clips.
Step 1. Image identification phase.
Some discussion of your image as public speaker. Mostly voice work with the tutor
Step 2. Text preparation phase.
Writing and voice work with the tutor
Step 3. The image in motion.
Moving the way you wish. Combining speech with gestures and tasks.
Step 4. The integrated performance. Putting it all together.
